What is Dysport used for?
Dysport is a prescription injection administered by a licensed healthcare professional to treat moderate to severe frown lines (those wrinkles between the eyebrows).
Medically, it’s a botulinum neurotoxin (abobotulinumtoxinA), an acetylcholine release inhibitor and a neuromuscular blocking agent. It temporarily prevents specific muscle movements that cause frown lines
What are Dysport injections?
Administered by a licensed healthcare professional, Dysport is supplied as a single-use, sterile 300-unit vial. The dose of Dysport for the treatment of glabellar lines (frown lines between your eyebrows) is a total of 50 units injected equally among the specific muscles. The dose of Dysport is not the same as the dose of any other botulinum toxin product and cannot be compared to the dosage of any other botulinum toxin product that you may have previously used
How long does it take to administer?
Although office visits can vary, the procedure generally takes 10 to 20 minutes.
How long does it take Dysport to work?
Though results vary, over half of users see improvement in moderate to severe frown lines between the brows within 2-3 days.1-3*
*A secondary endpoint based on Kaplan-Meier estimates of cumulative rate of time to onset of response. The median time to onset of response was 3 days in GL-1 (Dysport 55/105 [52%], Placebo 3/53 [6%] and GL-2 (Dysport 36/71 [51%], Placebo 9/71 [13%]), and 2 days in GL-3 (Dysport 110/200 [55%], Placebo 4/100 [4%]).

How long does Dysport last?
One treatment of Dysport provides results that may last for up to 5 months.
†GL-1 and GL-3 evaluated subjects for at least 150 days following treatment. Based on a ≥1-Grade GLSS improvement from baseline utilizing data from two double-blinded, randomized, placebo-controlled pivotal studies (GL-1, GL-3) in a post-hoc analysis.

SAFETY + SIDE EFFECTS + AUTHENTIC DYSPORT®
Identifying authentic Dysport
There’s only one FDA-approved Dysport. It’s important to find a primary care physician, dermatologist, cosmetic aesthetician, plastic surgeon or other healthcare professional who is trained and licensed to administer Dysport.
Galderma provides comprehensive training for all qualified healthcare providers who want to inject our aesthetic products. Be sure to ask your specialist to see the packaging of your product to make sure it’s authentic.
There are more anti-counterfeiting measures on the packaging that aren’t listed here. Ask your specialist to verify the Dysport you’re being treated with is authentic.

Common side effects
When it comes to possible side effects, you may be wondering why Dysport has a boxed warning. In 2009, following a comprehensive safety review, the FDA mandated that all botulinum toxins—including Dysport—carry a boxed warning to bring attention to the fact that these products have the potential to spread from the injection site to other parts of the body, resulting in serious life-threatening risks, including difficulty talking, swallowing or breathing; muscle weakness; drooping eyelids; and blurred or double vision.
However, the most common possible side effects include:

  • nose and throat irritation
  • headache
  • injection site pain
  • injection site skin reaction
  • upper respiratory tract infection
  • eyelid swelling
  • eyelid drooping
  • sinus inflammation
  • nausea
    Other side effects
Dysport may cause serious side effects that can be life threatening, including:
  • Problems breathing or swallowing — People who already have swallowing or breathing problems before receiving Dysport have the highest risk of getting these problems. These problems can happen within hours, or days to weeks after an injection of Dysport, usually because the muscles used to breathe and swallow can become weak after the injection. Death can happen as a complication if you have severe problems with swallowing or breathing after treatment with Dysport.
    • People with certain breathing problems may need to use muscles in their neck to help them breathe. These patients may be at greater risk for serious breathing problems with Dysport.
    • Swallowing problems may last for several weeks. People who can not swallow well may need a feeding tube to receive food and water. If swallowing problems are severe, food or liquids may go into your lungs.
  • Spread of toxin effects — In some cases, the effect of botulinum toxin may affect areas of the body away from the injection site and cause symptoms of a serious condition called botulism. The symptoms of botulism include:
    • loss of strength and muscle weakness all over the body
    • double vision
    • blurred vision and drooping eyelids
    • hoarseness or change or loss of voice (dysphonia)
    • trouble saying words clearly (dysarthria)
    • loss of bladder control
    • trouble breathing
    • trouble swallowing

Dysport® (abobotulinumtoxinA) is a prescription injection for temporary improvement in the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines) in adults less than 65 years of age.
Important Safety Information
What is the most important information you should know about Dysport? Spread of Toxin Effects: In some cases, the effects of Dysport and all botulinum toxin products may affect areas of the body away from the injection site. Symptoms can happen hours to weeks after injection and may include swallowing and breathing problems, loss of strength and muscle weakness all over the body, double vision, blurred vision and drooping eyelids, hoarseness or change or loss of voice, trouble saying words clearly, or loss of bladder control. Swallowing and breathing problems can be life threatening and there have been reports of death. You are at the highest risk if these problems are pre‐existing before injection.
These effects could make it unsafe for you to drive a car, operate machinery, or do other dangerous activities.
Do not have Dysport treatment if you: are allergic to Dysport or any of its ingredients (see the end of the Medication Guide for a list of ingredients), are allergic to cow’s milk protein, had an allergic reaction to any other botulinum toxin product, such as Myobloc®, Botox®, or Xeomin®, have a skin infection at the planned injection site, under 18 years of age, or are pregnant or breastfeeding.
The dose of Dysport is not the same as the dose of any other botulinum toxin product and cannot be compared to the dose of any other product you may have used.
Tell your doctor about any swallowing or breathing difficulties and all your muscle or nerve conditions such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis [ALS or Lou Gehrig’s disease], myasthenia gravis, or Lambert‐Eaton syndrome, which may increase the risk of serious side effects including difficulty swallowing and difficulty breathing. Serious allergic reactions have occurred with the use of Dysport. Dry eye has also been reported.
Tell your doctor about all of your medical conditions, including if you have surgical changes to your face, very weak muscles in the treatment area, any abnormal facial change, injection site inflammation, droopy eyelids or sagging eyelid folds, deep facial scars, thick oily skin, wrinkles that can’t be smoothed by spreading them apart, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding or planning to become pregnant or breastfeed.
Tell your doctor about all the medicines you take, including prescription and nonprescription medicines, vitamins and herbal and other natural products. Using Dysport with certain other medicines may cause serious side effects. Do not start any new medicines while taking Dysport without talking to your doctor first.
Especially tell your doctor if you: have received any other botulinum toxin product, such as Myobloc® (rimabotulinumtoxinB), Botox® (onabotulinumtoxinA), or Xeomin® (incobotulinumtoxinA), in the last four months or any in the past (be sure your doctor knows exactly which product you received, have recently received an antibiotic by injection, take muscle relaxants, take an allergy or cold medicine, or take a sleep medicine.
Common Side Effects
The most common side effects are nose and throat irritation, headache, injection site pain, injection site skin reaction, upper respiratory tract infection, eyelid swelling, eyelid drooping, sinus inflammation, and nausea.

Is Dysport different from BOTOX® Cosmetic?
Dysport® and Botox are both made from botulinum toxin type A. All botulinum toxins have the same mechanism of action: blocking the release of acetylcholine (ACh) and preventing the muscles from contracting to maintain the aesthetic effect. However, the dose of Dysport is not the same as the dose of any other botulinum toxin product and cannot be compared to the dosage of any other botulinum toxin product that you may have previously used

What’s the cost of Dysport?
The cost of Dysport is determined by your healthcare professional and will vary based on the amount of product used and frequency of injections. Dysport is priced similarly to other botulinum toxin products that are commercially available.

How can I make sure my Dysport is authentic?
There’s only one FDA-approved Dysport. Be sure to ask your specialist to see the packaging of your product to make sure it’s authentic.
Look for the full product name on the front and sides of the packaging.
Make sure the seal on the product is intact.
Make sure the product isn’t expired.
Check the Galderma logo at the top left corner of the package.
Find the barcode and distribution statement on the bottom of the package.

DO NOT TAKE DYSPORT IF YOU:

  • Are allergic to cow’s milk protein
  • Had an allergic reaction to any other botulinum toxin product, such as Myobloc® (rimabotulinumtoxinB), Botox® (onabotulinumtoxinA) or Xeomin® (incobotulinumtoxinA)
  • Have a skin infection at the planned injection site

DYSPORT MAY NOT BE RIGHT FOR YOU IF:

  • You have had surgical changes to your face
  • You have very weak muscles in the treatment area
  • Your face looks very different from side to side
  • The injection site is inflamed
  • You have droopy eyelids or sagging eyelid folds
  • You have deep facial scars
  • You have thick, oily skin
  • Your wrinkles can’t be smoothed by spreading them apart

Lip Flip: DYSPORT
It’s not unusual for our bodies to change as we age, and often, our faces are the first place to show signs of aging like wrinkles, laxity, and sagging. While you’re probably familiar with the use of injectables like Botox or Dysport to improve the appearance of wrinkles in the forehead and around the eyes, you may not realize that there are similar treatments that can help thinning lips to look fuller and more plump.
If you’re not interested in surgical procedures to produce a fuller pout, and you’re worried that fillers may not provide the subtle improvement you prefer, you’ll be happy to learn that there’s a non-surgical and minimally-invasive alternative: the Lip Flip.

What is the Lip Flip?
The lip flip is a treatment that involves injecting Dysport, an injectable similar to Botox, into the muscle just above the upper lip. This will cause the muscle to relax temporarily, and the upper lip to roll slightly outward. The result is an upper lip that looks slightly fuller and more defined, but that’s still completely natural when you talk, smile, and move your mouth. A Dysport or Botox lip flip simply amplifies your natural shape and pout, while also allowing a natural look to your lips.
In addition, this treatment will help to smooth any tiny lines that can form around the upper lip and contribute to the look of aging. The lip flip is not designed to add volume to the lips, unlike fillers.  If you’re simply looking for a subtle improvement that refreshes and rejuvenates your smile, the lip flip is a great option.
What Makes Dysport Better than Botox for a Lip Flip?
Dysport and Botox are very similar products with very similar benefits, so you may not know what makes one better than another. Both are easy to administer in the office setting by a nurse or doctor, with procedures typically taking just about ten minutes to complete, and patients are allowed to return to normal activities immediately after.
For a lip flip, patients are able to leave our office shortly after their procedure and can continue on with their day. There may be swelling and numbness after and results will be seen within a few days. So, what makes Dysport better for a lip flip? It really comes down to instant gratification. With Dysport, you’ll see results within a couple of days. Botox, on the other hand, could take up to a week or more to show improvement – sometimes up to a month after treatment. If you want speedy results, Dysport is the clear choice when deciding on what injectable to utilize for your lip flip. Dr. Beverly Fischer and her team are happy to go over the options and details during your consultation.
How Long Does the Lip Flip Last?
Dysport injections should last at least 3-4 months after treatment.
Who’s a Good Candidate for Treatment?
In order to be a good candidate for the lip flip procedure, you must be in good health and you should not have a history of sensitivity to botulinum toxin treatments.
The lip flip procedure is ideal for anyone with a thinning upper lip and/or upper lip wrinkling who is interested in a fuller, more natural looking lip. If you’re considering fillers, the lip flip is a great way to get an idea of what you might look like with more fullness, before you commit to the effects of fillers or to simply smooth out fine lines around your mouth and lips.
Lip Flip Cost
The cost of the Dysport lip flip treatment is around $250. Lip fillers could cost significantly more, so the lip flip procedure is an affordable way to get an idea of whether or not you like your new look before you commit to fillers.
